As a follow up to our 2011 album ‘A Southern Revelation’, we returned to Soundtrack Black Studio in the hills of East Tennessee to once again work with friend and studio owner Joel Stooksbury, who mixed, engineered and co produced the new album along with My Ruin guitarist Mick Murphy.

‘The Sacred Mood’ is a subtle reinvention for My Ruin. In an industry that is ever changing, we’re not a band who pays attention to the current trends. We’ve found our sound and we simply do what we do while staying true to our roots. I think our fans appreciate our integrity and we appreciate our fans. We offered the last album as a free download where people could donate to the band if they wanted and it was a great success but we are taking a different approach with our new album which we are self releasing once again. Unfortunately, we have learned over time that most record labels are not for us and we seem to do better on our own as a DIY independent band which is what we always have been, today more than ever with our eighth album ‘The Sacred Mood’ as a testament to our staying power.
The atmosphere of the new album is heavily drenched in the heat of the South where it was recorded and fueled by insomnia filled nights in Los Angeles where it was written. The cover was designed with this in mind by a talented Manchester, UK based artist & illustrator named Kayleigh Brookes who also happens to be a longtime fan of the band. The art that goes with the album is very different than anything we’ve previously done before. We decided to use real elements of nature mixed with iconic illustrations to create something unique to My Ruin that would go with the otherworldly language of the lyrics. We wanted an ethereal image for the cover and chose the moon for the background because we felt it evoked the mood of the album as a whole. The image was actually inspired by a photograph which was taken by Tor Burrows who has worked with me creating music videos for My Ruin’s last 2 albums and is currently working on a teaser commercial for the album which we plan on debuting in April. I really enjoy working with Tor on our videos and being that I have always worked alone when designing the artwork for many of our previous recordings, I thought it would be an interesting change to collaborate with someone on this side of things.

We are releasing ‘The Sacred Mood’ digitally and designing a unique hardcover print & e-book to accompany it. Included in the book will be photographic images and illustrations of the band, lyrics, musings, a few short stories and original art pieces. This is something I have wanted to do for a long time and our new album has given me the perfect opportunity to make it happen. We're looking forward to sharing it with the fans of our band who have continued to follow us over the years and those who are just discovering our music for the first time.

Goodbye Twenty Twelve!

Last night I laid to rest my old soul. Let the past bury it's dead and friendships which have turned cold. I can't say that I was sad to see twenty twelve go. This has been a strange year filled with many highs and lows. The highlight for me was shared with Mick Murphy & Luciano Ferrea recording the new My Ruin album with Joel Stooksbury at his Soundtrack Black Studio in Tennessee. By far my fondest memory, favorite people and what I'm most looking forward to bringing to life together in twenty thirteen.

My resolution is my mood.
To keep it sacred and start anew.

Today is the one year anniversary of our 7th album ‘A Southern Revelation’ which we released as a FREE (digital only) DOWNLOAD and gift to fans on December 7th, 2011. To celebrate our special day we would like to thank all those who have taken the time to download a copy and donate to our band this past year continuing to keep the spirit of independence alive through our music and art, by releasing this new version of the song ‘Seventh Sacrament’ which was recorded live at the Scala in London, England on our Southern Revelation Tour 2012.

We recorded album #8 a few months back at Soundtrack Black Studio in Knoxville, Tennessee with our good friend and co producer Joel Stooksbury who worked with us on ‘A Southern Revelation’. My Ruin @ The Viper Room October 27th!

Attention LA Friends & Family!
Mark your calendars because My Ruin is playing The Viper Room on Saturday, October 27th and it's gonna get LOUD! We will be debuting our new album which we recently recorded in Tennessee live in full for the first time with our producer Joel Stooksbury sitting in on the drums with us for this very special show you don't want to miss so save the date!

In The Studio Recording New Album #8!

Dear Friends,
  We hope everyone is having a bitchen summer because we sure are! In fact, me and Mr Murphy are far away from the City of Angels and currently in Knoxville, hard at work deep in the hills of Tennessee recording 10 new songs for our 8th full length album with our good friend Joel Stooksbury who is engineering and co producing once again with Mick!





Mick and I wrote the new album at home in LA over the last couple of months and although Mick has recorded the guitar, bass and drums on our last two albums, we have asked longtime friend and bassist Luciano Ferrea to handle the low end duties so he will be joining us here in Tennessee very soon. We're not ready to reveal the title as of yet, although I will say that the new album is made up of nine strong doom-laden tracks that incorporate our unique blend of screaming and spoken word. It also features a cover of a 1958 blues song originally recorded by the king of rock & roll, Elvis Presley which we've had a lot of fun putting our special red lipsticked evil twist on. Unlike 'A Southern Revelation' which was and angry and confrontational album, this new one is more introspective and there is an otherworldly ethereal feeling to it. I would describe it as a very sleep-deprived esoteric record. I suffer heavily from insomnia and the new album definitely reflects this mood.





  Knoxville is Mick's hometown. We recorded our last album here at Soundtrack Black during the dead of winter with the studio buried under a thick layer of snow and cold temperatures. This time we're experiencing the studio in the summer with the heat of the Southern sun and lush green surroundings which has made for a nice warm change of atmosphere and inspiration. We've been having an amazing time here with Joel and his lovely wife Mindy who have opened their home and hearts to us and we will be posting updates from the studio over the next few weeks so make sure to check our blog and official Facebook page for updates!
